Environment

Glenview Cottages strives to provide personal hospitality while remaining sensitive to environmental concerns. We acknowledge our interdependence with all living things, we recognize that the Earth'
s resources are finite and feel that everyone can take an active role in conserving them. Our success is dependent on the long-term health and sustainability of our natural surroundings. As a partner in the Green Hotels Association, we are committed to conserving energy, water, and resources as well as reducing waste. Our efforts to maintain a healthy environment and our commitment to conservation do not reduce the quality and high standards expected by our guests.

The following are some of the ways Glenview Cottages is working to be more environmentally responsible:
  • Reduce waste through careful and bulk purchasing to eliminate excessive packaging.
  • Buy only recycled paper products for office use and promotional materials.
  • Recycle soda cans, food cans, glass, plastics, newspaper and cardboard.
  • Air-conditioning units are cleaned and inspected regularly to maintain air quality.
  • Recycle or donate former guest room linens.
  • Where ever possible use non-toxic cleaning materials.
  • Provide food, water and shelter for birds and wildlife.
  • Utilize rainwater for watering gardens on the property, reduce chemicals in gardens.
  • The natural forest comprising most of the property has been preserved.
  • Reduce laundry which reduces electricity consumption, water and detergent usage.
  • Use biodegradable liquid soap, shampoo and hair conditioner as guest bath amenities.
  • Reduce paper usage by corresponding via internet, e-mail, fax and phone.
  • Energy saving light bulbs in public areas.
  • Cottages are equipped with energy efficient instantaneous propane hot water heaters.
  • Use solar heating to heat the water in the outdoor pool.

What can you do as a guest?

As a guest we want you to be comfortable and enjoy yourself. There are a few things you can do if you choose to help us preserve and sustain our natural resources.
  • Turn off lights, TV, and appliances when leaving your cottage.
  • Turn down the air conditioner or heater while you are out for the day.
  • Keep the drapes closed to keep your cottage cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
  • Participate in our towel program, where you can hang your towel and use it again instead of getting fresh towels daily. This helps reduce laundry.
  • Use recycling bins for cans, plastic, newspapers, and cardboard.
  • Use garbage bins and cigarette buckets to reduce litter on the property.
  • Utilize our exchange program for books and magazines.
  • Take only photographs. Do not take "
    souvenirs"
from natural areas (like Glenview). Leave only footprints.
  • Take everything that you brought with you.

Thanks for helping us conserve and preserve our natural resources. Your participation is greatly appreciated. We are always looking for additional ways to conserve and welcome ideas from guests.
